Morokanella & Yiannoudi
Both Morokanella and Yiannoudi are part of Cyprus’s efforts to promote and preserve its indigenous grape varieties. These grapes contribute to the unique and diverse range of wines produced on the island. Cyprus has a long history of winemaking, and these indigenous varieties play a significant role in defining the island’s wine culture.
Morokanella:
- Morokanella is a white grape variety that is indigenous to Cyprus.
- It is known for producing aromatic and flavorful white wines.
- These wines are typically characterized by their floral and citrus notes, as well as a refreshing acidity.
- Morokanella grapes are often used to produce both dry and sweet white wines.
Yiannoudi:
- Yiannoudi is a red grape variety native to Cyprus.
- It is less common compared to some other red grape varieties in Cyprus, but it has gained popularity in recent years.
- Yiannoudi wines are known for their deep red color and can be full-bodied with robust tannins.
- The wines made from Yiannoudi grapes often exhibit flavors of dark fruits, spices, and earthy notes.
- We use Yiannoudi to produce our famous Royiatiko rosé semi sweet wine.
